Understandably, you may have a certain level of skepticism as to whether teeth whitening systems are safe, much less effective. But, what you need to know is that many clinical studies have shown and proven that using home systems to whiten your teeth are both safe and effective. This is primarily because the teeth enamel is not adversely affected, as long as whichever teeth whitening product you choose only contains a solution of 10% carbamide peroxide. Although a higher concentration of carbamide and hydrogen peroxide can be somewhat hazardous to the enamel of the teeth, the amount of fluoride that is contained in the solution helps to alleviate any side effects that may occur significantly. In fact, many dentists will recommend various fluoride gels if their patients are using unusually strong teeth whiteners to help alleviate any harm done to the enamel.
After any type of teeth whitening treatment, it is not uncommon that you may experience unusual sensitivity in the teeth and gums for a few days afterward. If this is experienced longer than three days, it is recommended that you stop using the product – at the very least, you should use the product once every other day, or even every two days, if needed. Always follow your dentist instructions whenever anything like this occurs, as he would know best how your teeth “behave” in reaction to various teeth whitening products.
